Born on 1st February 1983 in Most, Czechoslavia she began playing tennis at the age of 7 years old when her father Vlastimil Benes introduced her to the game. She turned professional in 1988 in Prague and she is coached by Jiri Fencl and plays with a Wilson K Six-One racket. Her clothing is sponsored by Adidas.
She played her first Grand Slam event in 2006 at the Australian Open and reached the 3rd round by beating 5th seed Mary Pierce in straight sets only to lose in the next round to former Number 1 Martina Hingis.
