Andrea Hlavackova grew in the famous beer city of Plzen in the Czech
Republic where her father is a Master Brewer in a brewery.
It is a tradition in her family the men go into the beer trade. Both her great grandfather and her grandfather were General Directors of the same brewery, but because it is now foreign-owned her father is unable to take up a directorship but he holds an important position in the brewery.

Her father played tennis and her older sister also played so when she was little she tagged along and used to play around. Although she took up the game herself when she was 6 she did not decide she wanted to make it her career until she was 16 or 17.
She finished high school then followed in her sister’s footsteps and started at law school in Plzen. She has completed two-and-a-half years of the five-year course but she has put it on hold for the moment due to traveling such a lot.
As of January 17th, 2011 she is ranked 99 in the world and her doubles ranking is 45. In her career, she has won 5 WTA doubles titles and 15 ITF titles plus 3 ITF singles.
She enjoys playing doubles more than singles as she says in doubles you are your partner are a team. In singles, you are on your own and she puts too much pressure on herself.
2007 was her best year as she won four of her five doubles titles and one of her three singles titles in that one year. Her first ITF doubles title was won on October 19th, 2003 with fellow Czech Tereza Szafnerova, and her first and only ITF singles titles were won in 2006 in Tenerife.
She has developed a successful doubles partnership with Lucie Hradecka and they won the 2008 ECM Prague Open in her own country beating Jill Craybas and Michaella Krajicek in the final in straight sets.
They went on to win the 2008 Gastein Ladies and successfully defended their title in 2009. In 2010 they won the Brisbane International doubles beating Melinda Czink and Arantxa Parra Santonja in the final but in 2011 they were knocked out by Cara Black and Anastasia Rodionova in the Quarter Finals 6-4/3-6/10-2.
In the Australian Open 2011, she won her first-round match to set up a second-round meeting with her first Top 10 player Victoria Azarenka, but she was outclassed by Azarenka and lost 4-6/4-6.
Currently coached by Vaclav Zdrazilia, who is unable to travel with her full time, off-court she enjoys swimming, football, skating, and basketball as well as listening to music.
