Her highest career ranking was World Number 11 which she achieved on February 16th, 2009 but she slipped down to Number 50 by the end of the year. As of 17th January 2011, she was Number 83.
She has an extensive record of wins as a Junior and was the 2007 winner of the Junior Girls Singles at Roland Garros. She made her Grand Slam debut at the 2005 French Open at the age of 15-years-old and reached the second round.
She also reached the 2nd round of the Australian Open in January 2008 where she lost to 9th seed Daniela Hantuchova. In 2008 she beat Vera Dushevina in the 1st round, Francesca Schiavone in the 2nd round, and World Number 3 Svetlana Kuznetsova in the 3rd round, all in straight sets. A walkover from the injured Serena Williams took her to the semi-finals to reach her first Tier 1 Final where she was beaten by Jelena Jankovic in straight sets.
She was selected for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and reached the semi-finals where she lost to the Gold medallist Caroline Wozniacki.
In 2009 despite the fact she started the year well her results began to slide and she lost in the early rounds of the French Open and Wimbledon. The following year she lost in the first round at the Australian Open, French Open, and Wimbledon, suffering three losses and no wins from her Grand Slam tournaments.
In 2010 Cornet caused a furor when she wore a see-through top and skimpy skirt in a doubles match at the Hopman Cup in Perth. She was representing Perth and her outfit shocked Australia’s greatest women players, former champion Margaret Court.
Court said her outfit was pushing the boundaries of what was acceptable and she thought tennis fashion had gone overboard. She also said the tennis court was not the place to wear clingy clothes and show everything.
Cornet’s outfit also drew comments from Australian Open officials who said players would be fined up to $2,000 if they flouted the Open’s strict dress code.
The Officials said they wanted to review the 18-year-old French player’s outfits in advance of the 2010 Australian Open which began on January 19th. No comment has been made about whether they inspected her outfits before the 2011 tournament where she has reached the third round.
Alize Cornet is currently without a coach and travels with her mother Patricia. Her doctor brother Sebastian, who was her inspiration to begin playing tennis after she watched him play when she was 4-years-old’ and is her agent.
When she is not on tour she lives in her favorite city Nice and loves listening to rock music. Her favorite artists are Muse and Jack Johnson. Her favorite film is “Lord of the Rings” and away from the courts, she likes basketball, handball, and soccer. The player she most admires is Andy Roddick.
